Lotus corniculatusWarm-season perennial legume.

Birdsfoot Trefoil is a low-growing perennial legume prized for its deep taproots, heat tolerance, and drought resistance once established. It performs well in a wide range of soils, including those too poor, shallow, or low in calcium to support Red Clover or Alfalfa. This makes it a reliable choice for challenging sites where other legumes struggle. Growing 1218\” tall, it provides long-lasting cover, nitrogen fixation, and high-quality forage.

With a germination window of 510 days, Birdsfoot Trefoil establishes steadily and produces forage suitable for pastures and hay. It also improves soil fertility and offers strong resilience to stress, including surprising tolerance to salinity. Its adaptability makes it an excellent option for cover cropping, green manure, and livestock systems in warmer climates. Note to Certified Organic Growers from Manufacturer: Nitro-coated seed is conventionally grown seed that has had an organically accepted seed coating applied to it. The seed itself is conventionally grown, non-GMO, and untreated (no fungicides or insecticide seed treatment applied) prior to coating. The seed coat consists of certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder (glue), and peat peat-based inoculant that is also OMRI-approved and organically accepted. The seed coating is applied in a OMRI-approved process in a separate treatment line that only produces Nitro-coated seeds.
